Snoring is a vibration of the soft tissues of the pharynx (palate, uvula, palatine pillars, tongue) due to the difficulty of the inhaled air to pass into the upper airways because they are partially obstructed. When the occlusion is complete, the air does not pass and apnea occurs, with the consequent interruption of respiratory activity. The frequent recurrence of these episodes during the hours of sleep delineates the pathological picture of the Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). The main causes are: advancing age, overweight and obesity, the use of tranquilizers and anatomical alterations (deviations of the nasal septum, adenotonsillar hypertrophy, nasal polyposis …).
