Specific language disorder (DSL) is a developmental language disorder, called “specific” “because it is not related to or caused by other developmental disorders in the child, such as mental retardation or hearing loss. It is part of the family of Specific Developmental Disorders. Specific Language Disorders are selective disorders, but can sometimes be associated with other Specific Developmental Disorders, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, motor coordination difficulties, attention disorders; furthermore, delays in language development may be present in cases of general alterations in cognitive functioning and attention disorders.
