Hypertrophy of the adenoids is an increase in the volume of the cells that make up the pharyngeal tonsils (adenoid vegetations) due to acute chronic inflammation. The main consequences are difficulty in breathing, which in turn can cause chronic rhinosinusitis, deformity of the palate (ogival), dental malocclusions, snoring and even sleep apnea.
