Myelolesions are clinical conditions caused by a traumatic injury to the spinal cord or by inflammation that develops concurrently with it. The result is severe physical disabilities due to paralysis, total or partial, of the limbs: paraplegies affect the lower limbs while tetraplegias affect the lower and upper limbs. There are also myelolesions of non-traumatic origin, as in the case of spinal tumors or scoliosis, or congenital as in the case of spina bifida. Myelolesions often affect young people involved in serious road accidents.
